Scope and Contents

Entered the service in 1967 after college. A friend killed in action in Vietnam (Andy Crispin) inspired him to join the Medical Corps as a surgical tech. Serving with the First Air Cavalry out of Saigon on a surgical team, he specialized in treating head, chest and abdominal wounds. Declined to carry a weapon out of principle. Discusses coping with combat and the loss of friends. R and R in Sydney and then in Bangkok, where he spent twenty days AWOL. Describes difficulty in returning to the reservation after the war and then a period of extensive travel. Thoughts on the importance of home and the high number of people from Santo Domingo who served in Vietnam. Discusses advice of his father, who served in the infantry in WWII and landed at Normandy. Offers advice about living life and being aware of the world. Plans to return to Vietnam one day. 31:54 Total.
