 File — Box: 1, Folder: 9

Scope and Content

From the Collection: The Long Canyon Ranch Pictorial Collection is focused on the Long Canyon Ranch in Taiban, New Mexico, but also includes references to New York City, of how the Herlihy family came to New Mexico, as well as life after the Ranch.

The Long Canyon Ranch Pictorial Collection is comprised of 658 total items including 494 photographs, 111 album pages, 21 postcards (double-sided), five service notes with envelopes, and one envelope relative to the Herlihy family in New Mexico. Image sizes range from 2 x 2 in. to 8.5 x 10.5 in.

The majority of the photographs are of the Herlihy family including Jenny and her five sons ("Dick," "Ted," Lester, Herbert, and George). The photographs and albums mostly consist of black and white prints (many using sulfide toner per the resulting sepia brown coloring popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries). Additional photographs taken in the late 20th century (1985) are of areas in and around Taiban, New Mexico. The postcards include areas of New Mexico, travel destinations and locations of employment across the USA, as well as messages from active military.
