Poster - "Una Sola Union: Vote UFW", 1977

 File — Oversize-Folder: 1

Scope and Content

From the Collection: The collection consists mainly of annual reports to the Board of Directors of the National Sharecroppers Fund on the condition of farmworkers, 1964-1968. The reports provide data and insight into the social and political conditions, the accomplishments, setbacks, and outlook of/for hired farm workers, migratory farm workers, and sharecroppers in the United States in the 1960s. Rural poverty, child labor, health and safety issues, housing, and education are discussed in the reports. Institution of federal programs such as farm subsidies and minimum wage are documented, as are protests, union organizing, and strikes. Reports were all written by Fay Bennett, Executive Director of NSF.

The collection also includes a few flyers and a calendar produced by the United Farm Workers, espousing their causes, which included decent housing, a decent living wage, safety measures in the use of pesticides, and the right to be treated with respect and dignity. Flyers call for supporting farm workers by boycotting non-union lettuce and grapes. One of the flyers is in Spanish and English, the rest of the materials are in English.
