Scope and Content

From the Collection: This collection contains financial information regarding the Moore family's Twin Wells farm, from 1918-1937. The cash books, ledgers and journal record receipts and expenditures for labor, alfalfa, cotton, miscellaneous supplies and expenses, improvements, household expenses, fuel/oil/gas, seed, grain, fertilizer, sheep, cattle, new equipment, taxes, insurance, charity, legal expenses, C. N. Moore, C. W. Moore and E. O. Moore. The ledgers for October 1930-December 1937 are organized by month and list debit and credit for each item per month.

In the front of Cash Book, January 1929-October 1930, are four pages of advertisements from the area: Roswell, Dexter, Hagerman and Artesia. The volume includes helpful information for the farmer such as articles about income tax, family remedies, animal diseases, tables for converting pounds to bushels, amount of seed to sow or plant an acre, etc.

Also in this collection is the account book of Dr. Henry. M. Brown of Hagerman, N.M. Access to this material is restricted. The volume contains patient accounts and the doctor's personal accounts. The majority of the patients are Anglo but there are also Hispanic surnamed patients. Some of the personal financial records are Dr. Brown's auto records for his 1926 Ford coupe and 1929 Chevrolet sedan. Other listings are everyday expenses such as grocery, telephone company, milkman, etc.

Access Restrictions

The Henry M. Brown account book is restricted until 2034. Researchers engaged in publishable research are required to get permission from the CSWR Director before use.
