M. Dunn, San Jose School - Grade 6,, 1937

 Item — Box: 22, Diary: 2

Scope and Contents

This diary opens with a critique of the school and the large number of students in her classroom (47; 20 girls, 22, boys, 5 not recorded). This diary also records suggestions and interactions with other teachers. The diary includes detailed lists of vocabulary, material covered, procedures, as well as sporadic and limited discussion concerning the community and relations with parents. Geography units are more global (such as Italy and Egypt) and specific. Formal grade lists are included for spelling, dictation, vocabulary, and reading exams. The teacher also reflects on problems she did not expect to encounter and closes with a list of grades for a survey test. At the end of the diary is a large painted sign that reads "Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see god".
