Mayme Ford, Nambe School - Grades 1-2, 1939-1940

 Item — Box: 14, Diary: 1

Scope and Contents

This diary begins the third or fourth week of class and includes a "Personality" chart indexing each child in regards to: initiative, general vocabulary, cooperation, good work habits, personal appearance, etc. Following the chart is a brief discussion of each child (approximately 40). Unlike many of the other diaries for this age group, this one contains fewer examples of exercises. Instead, this one contains short four or five line stories on subjects such as peas, corn, vitamins and proper diets. This teacher also appears to be very involved with the students outside of the school -- she visits families, bought a child orthopedic shoes, and receives notes from parents. Throughout the diary, there is also mention of the weather, often "very sultry and depressing." This diary was reviewed and commented on by a senior official.
