Scope and Content

From the Collection: This collection consists of a single journal, or diary, of Charles March Stephens, 1884. The fly page notes that Stephens lived at 1013 14th St. NW, Washington, D.C., when he began the diary. Traveling frequently, he visited New York City, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New Hampshire, taking his journal with him. Regular entries in the diary are dated January 1 - March 6, 1884, with a few more irregular entries up until June 13 of the same year. Stephens recorded the weather, his expenses, and made notes about school and family matters. He also showed an interest in politics, particularly the Republican Party.
