Scope and Contents

Mr. Shippley left Texas in 1903 and went to Texico, New Mexico. Had a business with D.W. Dunn selling mules and horses. Tells how the big ranches had to tear down their drift fences and let people file on the range land. This put the big ranches, including the DZ and LFD, out of business. Opened a bank in Texico in 1906. Tells about Felix Jones killing Tom Lyons. Range conditions. In 1912 bought the controlling interest in the Clovis National Bank and closed out the Texico Nat’l Bank. Also started the Shippley Bros. Cattle Co. and did a big business shipping in cattle and selling them.
