Scope and Contents

Father came to Fort Cummings in 1872 as 1st Sgt., Troop A, 4th Cavalry to fight Apaches (Nana). He was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor fighting the Sioux in Wyoming. Worked on first steam shovel in Santa Rita (Romero Pit). Description of openpit mining procedures and growth of Santa Rita. Grandfather found gold nuggets in the San Mateos.
