Scope and Contents
The two sisters tell about: their father came to Fort Bayard in 1869 from New Castle, Delaware for his health, fought the Apaches and killed the Indian that killed Bullard and helped bring in the body of Risk; family moved to Silver in 1888; describes the night of the big flood in 1892 and the start of the Big Ditch; Belle Eckles was the first graduate of the Normal School, taught in Silver 16 years, elected County Superintendent of Schools in 1912, Acting President of State Teachers college, then State Superintendent of Instruction in 1922.
