Scope and Content
From the Collection:
The in-progress collection contains research materials, images, newspaper clippings, interviews, historical documents, surveys, and correspondence relating to the New Deal projects across the United States, with an emphasis on New Mexico.
Boxes 1-4 contain information from cities and towns that have or once had New Deal artwork and architecture in New Mexico and the United States. A major component of these boxes is surveys and questionnaires sent by the New Mexico New Deal Preservation Task Force to various towns and cities to find and document New Deal artwork. These surveys often include photographs of the artwork as well as letters requesting funding for the restoration of the art. Folders contain historical information about New Deal buildings and artwork and biographical information on New Deal architects and artists, as well as brochures from organizations and cities that highlight New Deal history, as well as newspaper clippings of New Deal collections, exhibitions, and restoration efforts. Personal correspondence between Kathy Flynn and others concerning events, travel, her publications, and New Deal history are also included.
Boxes 5-6 contain newspaper clipping, journal articles, biographies, and historical documents related to artists who were commissioned by the Works Progress Administration and worked primarily in New Mexico.
Boxes 7-11 contain state guide books written 1937-1941, as part of the American Guide Series funded by the Federal Writer’s Project (FWP). Another box contains primary source books funded by the Works progress Administration outside of the American Guide series.
