Scope and Contents

From the Sub-Series: Included in this material is information about Smokey Bear and Homer's role as escort of Smokey to Washington DC in 1950, his official reports and field diaries as hunter for the Department of Game and Fish, and records from his years as Assistant Director and as Director. Newspapers clippings about Homer in his professional capacity are filed here as well. Also included is information regarding his dismissal as Director of the Game Department, a political situation involving the Game Commission and then-Governor Ed Mechem. Early reports of the department are included here. Publications of the Department, such as Annual Reports and newsletters, which Homer received even after he no longer worked at the department, are placed here. Homer also used much of the information found in these files in his autobiography.
