Scope and Content
Collection consists of official and personal papers of Governor Campbell. The bulk of the collection consists of Campbell's official papers (1963-1966). Legislative papers include executive budgets, House and Senate bills, proclamations, correspondence with the U.S. congressional delegation from New Mexico, and various other documents. Federal papers consist of documents concerning federal agencies. Convention and conference materials pertain to various issues. Special issues involve the voting machine hearing, the Anapra port of entry, the Animas-La Plata Division Project, the Vietnamese conflict, and other issues. Political papers include correspondence and other documentation of political activities. Penal papers consist of pardons, extraditions, and correspondence. All other official papers concern various administrative agencies and private organizations. Private papers consist of biographical information, awards, clippings, and miscellaneous other personal and political documents.

Biographical Note
Jack M. Campbell was born in Hutchinson, Kansas in 1916. He began a law practice in Albuquerque, New Mexico (1940). He served as speaker of the House (1961-1962), chairman of the Legislative Council (1962), and chairman of the 33 states Interstate Oil Compact Commission (1963-1964). Campbell served two consecutive two year terms as Governor of the State of New Mexico (1963-1966).
