RECORDS OF INCORPORATIONS, 1868-1910.

 Sub-Series

Scope and Contents

Records of corporations are now maintained by the State Corporation Commission created as a separate agency by the Constitution of 1912. Prior to statehood, incorporation records were maintained by the Secretary of the Territory in accordance with the provisions of the General Incorporation Act of 1868 as amended in 1876. The original copies of the articles of incorporations were filed with the Secretary of the Territory and copied by that official into bound record books. The originals have been microfilmed by the State Corporation Commission. The records in this microfilm edition consist of the bound record copy books of the Secretary of the Territory. Unfortunately, Books 4 and 5 covering the period of January, 1886 to July 21, 1909 are no longer extant.
