Abstract The Deidre Sklar papers document the research of a dance ethnologist, focusing on the cultural, religious and dance traditions of the town of Tortugas, New Mexico. Scope and Contents Series I: Los Matachines de Alcalde contains photographs of the Matachines dances in northern New Mexico, a tradition shared by Pueblo and Hispano communities. Hall took this series of photographs in Alcalde in the 1980s. Some of the photos in this set were done for a New Mexico Magazine piece in 1986.
