Abstract This collection consists of correspondence and other papers pertaining to Charles Francis Clarke, British immigrant-turned-pioneer on the Western frontier. Most correspondence in this collection pertains to Clarke, his wife Mary, and his parents in England. This correspondence details pioneer life and newsworthy events of the early- and mid-1800s from the perspective of an immigrant family and enlisted man.

Abstract Papers of John P. Bloom related to his work on three symposia sponsored by the Dona Ana County Historical Society. The first symposium was titled New Mexico's Year of Destiny, 1846, and was held in 1996 as a 150th anniversary. The largest and most successful of the symposia was the symposium on the 150th anniversary of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, held in 1998, and the subsequent publication of a book based on the symposium presentations. Scope and Content This collection consists of one seven page manuscript, "Mexico: From the Manuscript of Casual Addresses and Sketches, New York and Philadelphia," written in 1847 by Valentine Robbins. The manuscript relates to the conquest of northern Mexico by United States troops and the subsequent annexation of Texas.
