Alice Lee Marriott Typescript and Letters

Scope and Content This small collection consists of a photocopy typescript, "Spanish-American Folk Stories of some New Mexico Saints" and 7 typed letters from Marriott to Clark Kimball of Rydal Press in Santa Fe, (1985-1989). The manuscript is written in the vernacular of an old Spanish-American dialect of English in which her friend Jos? de la Cruz Romero relayed the stories of the saints to Marriott. The letters primarily discuss the potential for publication of this manuscript.

Aurelio M. Espinosa & Family Papers

Abstract Contains material produced or collected by Aurelio Espinosa Sr. and Aurelio Espinosa Jr. Both father and son were pioneers in the fields of New Mexican Spanish language and regional folklore and cultural productions. The material in the collection also reflects the extensive research on folklore traditions both father and son conducted in Latin America and particularly in Spain where they befriended and interacted with Spanish officials including General Francisco Franco during his regime.

Baughman Folklore Collection

Scope and Content The Ernest Warren Baughman collection contains six boxes of folktales (boxes 1-5 and 12) and six boxes of index cards recording folk cures, proverbs, rhymes and games, riddles, superstitions, customs, jokes, and weather lore (boxes 6-11), all collected by his students, mostly at the University of New Mexico. Edwin Berry Oral History Interviews and Songs

Scope and Content This collection consists of 30 CDs each containing one hour of oral interviews and/or renditions by Edwin Berry (Baca), a pioneer resident of Tomé, New Mexico. These interviews were conducted by Dr. Rowena Rivera, a former professor of Spanish at the University of New Mexico. In 1979, Dr. Rivera interviewed Edwin Berry, who was at the time 66 years old. Scope and Content This collection contains the unpublished manuscript, Uncle José and the Animals, a children's story written by Helen Zunser and illustrated by Shomer Zunser. This story is a compilation of New Mexican folk tales and riddles. It is hand typed and contains original illustrations. James B. Wright Collection of Southwestern Native American and Hispanic Music, Interviews and Literary Programs
