The Profundo Heritage Archive is an oral biography project conducted by Frank Graziano, John D. MacArthur Professor Emeritus of Hispanic Studies, Connecticut College. The collection consists of interviews with one hundred participants who range in age from their twenties to their nineties and represent a variety of New Mexican lifestyles and regions. Collection consists of photocopies of a variety of historical documents from Spain (1740-1750), Mexico (1826-1909), and New Mexico (1849-1901). Spanish documents include a 1750 royal decree exempting some Franciscans from various public duties and laws. Mexican documents include Porifirio Diazs 1909 regional title to a silver and copper mine in Tehuantepec. New Mexican documents primarily involve either Charles Overman or his wife Barbara Chavez de Sanchez.

Refugio Colony Grant Land conveyances

Abstract
Established in 1852 by the Republic of Mexico for Mexican nationals to live in the United States after the invasion of 1846, and located on the west side of the Rio Grande, between Chamberino and La Union, New Mexico. Each document is a four page manuscript in the Spanish language, and is sealed with the “Corporación De La Merced Del Refugio” blind stamp.

The collection contains the papers of New Mexico land grant activist Reies Lopez Tijerina, best known for founding the Alianza Federal de Mercedes. The group organized heirs seeking to regain Spanish and Mexican land grants protected under the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, an important component of the Chicano Movement.
