Albert W. Thompson Papers

Scope and Content The Albert W. Thompson Papers contain news clippings, articles, and manuscripts about the early days in the West, specifically, Clayton, Union County, and northeastern New Mexico. Most of the materials were written by Thompson, however, some of the newspaper columns were written by others. Black Jack Ketchem is a prominent subject within the collection. Miscellaneous materials include flyers, correspondence, a map, and notes.

Abstract This collection consists of correspondence and other papers pertaining to Charles Francis Clarke, British immigrant-turned-pioneer on the Western frontier. Most correspondence in this collection pertains to Clarke, his wife Mary, and his parents in England. This correspondence details pioneer life and newsworthy events of the early- and mid-1800s from the perspective of an immigrant family and enlisted man.

James Gillespie Hamilton Papers

Abstract This collection is comprised of the typed transcription of a series of letters written by James Gillespie Hamilton to his wife, Cornelia Bernard Hamilton during an overland trip from Westport, Missouri to California; August 26, 1857-April 15, 1858. Letters are copied and typed by his granddaughter, Katherine Jones Moore, and prefaced with a brief family history.

Nathan Howard Thorp Papers,

Scope and Content Collection consists of the papers of Nathan Howard "Jack" Thorp. The bulk of the collection consists of undated cowboy songs, poems, riddles, and short stories. Included are New Mexican folk songs and documents pertaining to New Mexico saints and feast days. Also within the collection is a letter concerning editing of Thorps manuscripts (1936).
