Biographical / Historical
This photo collection documents the 1940 University of New Mexico (UNM) Field School in Chaco Canyon with a few pictures of
Mesa Verde included.
These photos are of indeterminate provenance. Dr. Joan Mathien believes they might have belonged to
Bill Mulloy, who appears in some of the images. They might have been donated at the time of
the 1990 Old Timer’s Reunion, however there is no record in that collection of a transaction such
as this (the collection would have had to be donated by his wife as Mulloy died in 1978.)
In April 2008, Joan Mathien and Joyce Raab conducted an interview with Armand G. Winfield at his home. He was asked to comment on the collection and the individual photographs - the document created from that interview is included in the collection. Many of the prints have information about people, place and year on the back; all have been numbered.
