This series is arranged by conference or event in chronological order, and pertains to the recording of sessions at the Chaco Synthesis Project conferences and associated events. Each of the six conferences and associated events were recorded on analog audio cassette tapes and VHS video tapes. The recordings document the presentations by participants, commentary, and extensive discussions on topics surrounding Chaco organization of production, society, politics, ecology, economy, communities, architecture, and an attempt at a synthesis of the material.

An overview of the participants, presentations, and discussion is available in the proceedings reports. In this symposium there were two Chaco Synthesis Project relevant papers presented on January 14th at the New Directions in Pueblo Research session. Nancy Mahoney prsesented "Trashing the Chaco Phenomenom: Dissecting Middens in the Great House Communities and Reintegrating Chaco into Puebloan Histories:, and John Ware presented "Ethnography as Destination: Alternative Pueblo Social Histories".
