Scope and Content

From the Collection: The Teypama Archaeological Site Excavation records consist of original handwritten unit records, including artifact catalogue sheets, unit maps, and wall descriptions, computer generated data sheets describing artifact assemblages, hand drawn stratigraphic profiles, student field notebooks, a typed preliminary site report, handwritten and typed weekly TA reports, and carbon copies of surface collections. The material was organized into three series. Series one, Lab Catalogue Sheets, consists of all unit report materials (both originals and those carbon copies bearing corrections or additional information with the corrected copy placed in front), some photocopies of unit reports, surface collection reports, artifact type lists (labeled lithics, ceramics, fauna, macrobotanical, miscellaneous and samples), coding guides for the data sheets in series three, and the preliminary site report. In addition, there is a box of specimen cards detailing excavated artifacts, including x-rays of a copper bead, which is located in box 3A. Box 3A is housed within box 3. This series has a bulk date of 1981, although some handwritten notes are dated to 1982. Series two, TA Weekly Reports, consists of written and typed weekly activity reports from each TA, crew lists, and a small set of handwritten note pages originally stored in the binder with the TA reports. Series two bulk dates to 1981 but the handwritten notes date to 1982 and 1983. Series three consists of student field notebooks. Series four, Computer Data Sheets, consists of oversized computer generated data sheets and hand drawn stratigraphic profiles produced on several data sheets. The data sheets correspond to artifact assemblages and coding guides described in series one. This series dates to 1982, with the stratigraphic profiles undated.

The Teypama site also goes by Teypama Piro Site, Tey'Pa'Ma', Teypana, Old Socorro, and Las Huertas. The site number is LA282. The BLM number is CrNM-02-205.
