Biographical / Historical
Under the direction of Dr. Sally Davis, "the University of New Mexico Prevention Research Center addresses the needs of under-represented populations through community-engaged research and evidence-based dissemination and training." PRC research consists of formative research, field-based efficacy trials, translation research, implementation science, and dissemination research. Community-engaged initiatives include VIVA Projects, Chile Plus, Safe Sleep, and Covid-19 Projects. One of the PRC's most well-known programs is Pathways, which began in 1993 when Dr. Davis received a grant from the NHLBI to study obesity in Native Americans. The resulting studies, publications, and curriculum materials evolved into a "school-based health-promotion program involving physical activity, nutrition, classroom curriculum and families."
