Scope and Content

From the Collection: This collection encompasses the life and career of Dr. Lawrence Hoyt Wilkinson (1916-1992), a general surgeon of Albuquerque, New Mexico. The materials include his grade school composition book and materials from Southwestern University and Baylor College of Medicine, correspondence with family, friends, and colleagues, family mementos, honors, and years of writings, both professional and private. Dr. Wilkinson was a surgeon for four decades and played a major role in the development of his medical specialty in New Mexico and in the founding of the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. His civic and professional activities are represented as well as his twelve years on the University of New Mexico Board of Regents. The bulk dates are 1950-1988.
