Buffalo Dances and Deer Dances - Groups of songs performed during the winter holidays, on December 25, 26 and January 6. January 6 was the day of the Three Kings or Tres Reyes. That same day the new tribal governor and officials take office and the men dance to ask the spirits to bless their leaders., ca. 1970-1975

Scope and Content From the Collection: The recordings in this collection were performed at Jemez Pueblo by the Turquoise Moiety, to which Paul Tosa belongs. Paul Tosa is singing. Tosa provided the background notes for the songs, which feature the traditional singing and drumming of the Jemez Buffalo, Deer, Corn, Bow and Arrow and Harvest dances.
