The first great puppy love of my life when I was at Loomis in Windsor, CT. She attended sister school, Chaffee. 8 B&W photos mostly when we were young, like 15 years old. An article on the adult Peggy Fasullo, who was a wonderful potter. We've remained friends for almost 60 years.

JTN AND DIANA OUGHTON, CHICHICASTENANGO, SPRING 1964
I visited my best friend, Alan Howard, in Guatemala, spring 1964. The visit changed my life (see An American Child Supreme). In Chichicastenango, I met Alan's friend, Diana Oughton, who was working for the Quakers (American Friends). Later, in America, Diana became part of the Weather Underground and died in a bomb explosion on West 11th Street in New York, March 1970. This single B&W photo is by my cousin, Tim Weld.

Alan is with Luis Turcios Lima (head of the FAR), and César Montes. Turcios was killed not long after. César Montes, incredibly, is still alive today (2014). B&W foto was published in NY Times with article by Alan.

3 B&W photos. We visited the ruins in Costilla and posed in them for photographer, Fil Sibley, our Taos next-door neighbor. Great pictures. Ruby is very pregnant with Tania (born August 7, 1970). From that trip came my NM Review article, "Lawrence Martínez, and Don't You For Get Eat."

My wife Ruby took these B&W photos at Cypress Drive, Albuquerque, in 1973 (or 1974?) while we were trying to patch up our marriage. Folder includes 7 prints, a contact sheet with 22 prints, and 11 B&W negative strips. One photo was used for the jacket of The Milagro Beanfield War, published September 1974.

This is my favorite B&W picture. My best friend Mike Kimmel and me at the top Latir Lake with a string of 11 fat cutthroats, summer 1973. Photo was taken by a hippie wasted on mescaline we met up there. People don't catch and keep fish like that anymore, it's bad manners, bad environment. But what a triumph that day was for us. We caught them all on size 18 dry irresistibles. (See my slide archives for many bad pictures of this adventure, in sleeves #6 and #7 of Slide Box 1.)
