Scope and Contents Their daughter, Melissa Salazar, was murdered and her body left near the Valencia exit off of I 25 near Pecos. At the site where her body was found , the family erected a cross, placed an enclosed box where a candle remains lit, and planted many flowers. A field mass was held at the site. Mr. Salazar also discusses the early history of the tradition of roadside crosses.
