Scope and Content From the Collection: The collection consists of one letter signed by Kearny, commander of the 1st Division, 3rd Corps of the Army of the Potomac, dated 7 July, 1862 crediting Sgt. A.J. Ackerman with the capture of the colors of the 6th Louisiana Regiment at the Battle of Seven Pines and recommending him for promotion. The letter was written shortly after the battle of Malvern Hill.
