Scope and Contents
The collection documents efforts to establish the Dr. J. I. Dunham Medical Clinic in Chama, New Mexico, in the 1970s. The clinic was named in honor of the only physican in Chama at the time, Dr. J. I. (James Isaac) Dunham, who was killed in an automobile accident in 1970. Robert Brashar of Chama served as president of the J. I. Dunham Memorial Association, which led the efforts to establish the clinic.

The Dr. J. I. Dunham Memorial Association was formed in 1970, in Chama, NM. The Association's mission was:
The Clinic initially operated out of 6 rooms in the Shamrock Hotel in Chama. Citizens of Chama, Tierra Amarilla, Parkview, Ensenado, Brazos, Cebolla, Canjilon, Monero, and Lumberton contributed funds to purchase equipment; operations were underwritten by the Española Hospital. A "permanent" location for the clinic was eventually secured, but by the mid-1990s, the Clinic was deeply in debt and was forced to sell most of its assets. It reopened in 1996, operated by Health Centers of Northern New Mexico.
