Scope and Contents

This collection is arranged into (3) series: Art, Music, and Theatre Arts; Engineering; Photography. Each sereies is organized chronologically, then alphabetically. The series consists mostly of various publications, brochures, and pamphlets concerning the University of New Mexico University Art Museum, the Music and Theatre Arts Departments, and the Engineering Department. The collection also houses many photographs documenting mostly Engineering receptions and banquets, and miscellaneous events.

Biographical / Historical

The University of New Mexico Art Museum was founded in 1962 with a mission to serve as a teaching museum for the University’s faculty and students. Since opening its doors, the UNMAM permanent collection has grown to fulfill that purpose—assembling the largest collection of artwork in New Mexico over the course of six decades. The University of New Mexico Department of Music aims to provide the highest quality musical education, in order to make a substantial contribution to the cultural life of its region and the world by reinforcing the integral value of music in society.The Department of Theatre and Dance cultivates critical thinking and analysis, and helps students develop tools for creative expression.For emerging artists and specialists, we provide tools to build careers in their chosen field and networks to the professional world, both nationally and internationally. We serve the community through high quality performance events that showcase student and faculty artistic work and serve as a laboratory for applying skills learned in the classroom and studio. The UNM School of Engineering is the highest-ranked engineering program in New Mexico, and the only Carnegie R1 (highest research activity) university in the state, putting it in the same class as MIT, Stanford, Purdue and other well-respected engineering programs in the country.
