Biographical / Historical

Since its inception more than 35 years ago, Golden Key has been synonymous with excellence. The world’s largest honor society, and the only one to be based on a foundation of Academics, Leadership and Service, Golden Key was founded 29 November 1977, at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Ga. The University of New Mexico upholds Golden Key standards of academic excellence while simultaneously providing opportunities for meaningful community service, professional development, and leadership, for its members all in a setting of teamwork and fun. The 33rd Golden Key chapter, University of New Mexico was chartered March 30, 1983, as part of U.S. Region 7, which includes institutions in Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. With more than 3,700 members since 1983, The University of New Mexico is a growing chapter with a history of participation in varied community service activities including a newly initiated program with the Boys and Girls Club. Monthly general meetings have grown to include workshops and information sessions. These benefit not only Golden Key members, but the campus at large.
