Scope and Contents
The Friends of Music Collection consists mostly of records from meetings and minutes, and financial. The collection is organized into three groups: Records and Reports, Performances and Programs, Print Materials and Publications. Each grouping is arranged for the most part chronologically. The bulk of the collection is from the 1990s to the Friends of Music dissolution in 2021. The collection includes the beginnings of the incorporation in 1968, its by-laws, different performances and artists through out the organizations existence, as well as scholarship awards and awardees, donations and endowments.

Biographical / Historical
Friends of Music, Inc., a nonprofit corporation, has dedicated the last five decades to enriching the lives of aspiring musicians at the UNM Department of Music through the bestowal of scholarships. Operating actively from 1968 to 2021, this organization made significant contributions by providing scholarships, donations, and endowments to support the musical pursuits of students at the University of New Mexico. One noteworthy accomplishment was the establishment of a remarkable $500,000 endowed scholarship for students enrolled in the Department of Music. Despite the dissolution of Friends of Music, Inc., the enduring impact of this generous gift ensures that the tradition of supporting musical education will persist indefinitely. Through this enduring legacy, the Friends of Music will continue to foster the growth of talented musicians, leaving an indelible mark on the world of music education.
