Scope and Contents

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Papers is centered around the Engineering Department at the University of New Mexico primarily during the 1980s. The collection is grouped into four areas: meetings and minutes, reports, university related (newspapers, articles, memos), photographs and scapbooks. Each grouping is arranged in alphabetical order. There are a number of meetings including from faculty and various committees, annual reports, photographs of students and faculty, as well as two scrapbooks of photographs and newspaper clippings about the Engineerig Department.

Biographical / Historical

The University of New Mexico's School of Engineering was founded in 1906, and with the current name of Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1979. The deapartment includes research labs for such things as robotics, hearing aid research and artificial intelligence. The Centennial Science and Engineering library is also located in part of the 2-story underground portion of the building. In 1995, several ECE professors received teaching awards, a testament to the emphasis on teaching in the department. The department continues to command nationwide recognition and respect--a direct result of over ninety years of history on the University of New Mexico campus.

Abstract

The University of New Mexico's Electrical and Computer Engineering Department was founded in 1906. Throughout the years, the department has grown and inculdes research labs for such things as robotics, hearing aid research and artificial intelligence, as well as the Centennial Science and Engineering library. The bulk of the collection includes meetings and reports from the 1980s, and many photogrphs from the 1960s.
