Scope and Contents

A group of eighteen photographs showing town views, genre scenes and landscapes. Views include Nassau, Cuba, Martinique, Barbados, Puerto Rico and St. Thomas. Fifteen of the photographs are by J. Murray Jordan, with his captioning and numbering, including ten images with his dated copyright. Several ofthe images are dated 1897-1903.

The toned silver gelatin photographic prints measure 6x8 inches and are tipped onto album leaves. This bound collection is extracted from a larger album.

Biography

J. Murray Jordan (1861-1909) was an American photographer, trained as a medical doctor. During extensive travels 1885-1909, he photographed many locations in and around the Caribbean, as well as throughout the United States. He established a publishing House, World Post Card Company in 1903, producing postcards and booklets.
