Scope and Contents
The collection contains research, reports, photographs, and slides compiled by Van Citters Historic Preservation and partnering entities. Most of their work was done in New Mexico, but the collection also documents projects in Texas, Oklahoma, and Utah.
National Register of Historic Places documentation and nominations; maintenance and preservation plans, research and background materials comprise the bulk of the collection. Karen Van Citters and William A. Dodge authored many of the included studies.
A sampling of projects around New Mexico include Kirtland Air Force Base, Hobbs Army Airfield, Fort Bayard, University of New Mexico, New Mexico State University, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, New Mexico School for the Deaf, Santa Fe Rail Yard, Guadalupe County Courthouse, Albuquerque Indian School, Laguna Mart. Fort Bliss, Texas is another significant Van Citters project represented in the collection.
Preservation resources including publications, pamphlets, workshop, and town hall materials are also found in this collection.
