Scope and Contents

This collection consists of personal and professional papers relating to the literary and academic career of John Macker. The collection includes personal journals, original manuscripts, photographs, interviews, copies of published works, broadsides and correspondence. The collection is currently unprocessed; please consult with CSWR reference staff with questions and for access.

A preliminary collection inventory is as follows: Box 1: books, broadsides, original manuscripts, a two-page autobiography detailing publications and awards and a two-page list of Books and Broadsides, 1983-2022; Box 2: copies of literary magazines, journals and anthologies with contributions from John Macker, 1983-2020; Box 3: copies of literary magazines, journals and anthologies with contributions from John Macker, 1983-2020; Box 4: binders (individually labeled), poetry broadsides, posters, photos, publicity, one folder of correspondence with poet John Knoll; Box 5: five audio cassettes of interviews with Venice West poet Tony Scibella (1985 and 1987) and journals edited and published by John Macker, including “Retirement Poems” by Tony Scibella; Box 6: Personal Journals, 1983-2019; Box 7: Personal Journals, 1983-2019.

Biographical / Historical

Originally from Colorado, award-winning poet, playwright, essayist, editor, journalist and teacher John Macker resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Macker studied at the University of Missouri and Naropa Institute at the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics, Boulder, Colorado. His fiction, prose, poetry and plays have been widely published and performed and have received such recognition as a New Mexico-Arizona Book Award, a Colorado Council on the Arts grant and two nominations for Pushcart Small Press Prizes. John Macker is also Vice-President of the Frank Waters Foundation, Taos, New Mexico.
