Scope and Contents

The Richard Schalk Drawings collection contains project files of work created by Richard Schalk between 1976 and 1987. Included in the collection are floor plans, elevations, design drawings, construction documents, and other materials from Schalk’s proposed and built structures.

Biographical / Historical

Born in September 1947, in Albuquerque, NM, architect, Richard Schalk is known for his use of old forms and ideas of traditional New Mexico architectural styles to create new timeless solutions. Schalk graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1973 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Architecture. After graduating, Schalk built a career designing custom homes, home remodels, historic renovations, tenant improvements, retail, dental offices, and hospitality structures. He is a registered architect in California and in New Mexico, with memberships in the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). He has produced a number of award-winning homes and has had homes featured in the American Institute of Architects, Albuquerque Chapter as well as magazines and fundraising events.
