Scope and Contents
The Chester C. Travelstead collection contains materials from 1959-1968 in a number of different formats - letters, reports, and general correspondences - concerning The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) throughout Travelstead's time as Dean of the College of Education at UNM. There are also corresponences regarding segregation and Jim Crow, as well as newspapers and newsletters in commemoration of UNM's 75th anniversary. The collection is arranged in chronological order with the vast majority of the collection referencing NCATE during the 1960s.

Biographical / Historical
Chester C. Travelstead was the Dean of the College of Education at the University of New Mexico from 1956-1968. He previously held several other position at UNM including as the Academic Vice President from 1968-1976; Provost, from 1976-1977; and Vice President, Maxwell Museum Association, UNM from 1983-1985. He was an active member of NCATE (National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.)

Abstract
Chester C. Travelstead was the Dean of the College of Education at the University of New Mexico from 1956-1968. The vast majority of the collection regards the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) during the 1960s. In the collection is also personal correspondence and newspapers and newsletters commemorating UNM's 75th anniversary in 1964.
