Scope and Contents

Most of the collection is centered around Vivian’s college years at The University of New Mexico during the 1940s. She was an avid scrapbooker and her collection includes a number of scrapbooks, including from her high school in Albuquerque, the Rainbow Girls, and her time at UNM. There are also a number of photographs of family and friends, general correspondence letters, letters to Frank Long, pins, ribbons, ephemera, a wedding dress, a Kodak camera, and various Alpha Delta Pi objects. The collection is grouped into three areas of materials: manuscripts, photographs, and volumes. Each area is arranged in chronological order.

Biographical / Historical

Vivian Louise Lewis was born April 24, 1925, in Deming, New Mexico. She grew up in Albuquerque, NM, where she attended Jefferson Junior High School, Albuquerque High School and eventually the University New Mexico. She was an active member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, and graduated from UNM in 1946. She later went to Library School in New York and became a librarian. She married Frank Raymond Long in 1948. Vivian died on June 1, 1964, at the age of 39 from terminal uremia, and she is buried at Forest Lawn Memorial-Park in Glendale, California.
