Scope and Contents

The 11th Annual Taos Summer Writers’ Conference was held at the Historic Sagebrush Inn Conference Center from July 12 to July 19, 2009. It offered several generative workshops, excursions, keynote speaking, and awards. Excursions, included trips to Taos Pueblo, D.H. Lawrence Ranch, The Harwood Museum of Art, and the Mabel Dodge Luhan House. Summer Wood taught two workshops: “writing the Where of it” and “Writing around Taos”, while Charlene Geiss presented a workshop on creative journalism. The Conference also welcomed several teachers/writers from the MFA Program at New Mexico State University (NMSU). The collection includes one series that contains faculty letters, vacation guide, thank you emails and correspondence, registration paperwork, budget, and other information regarding the participation and awards granted to the Conference.

Biographical / Historical

The Taos Summer Writers Conference was founded in 1998 by Professor Sharon Oard Warner of the University of New Mexico. Participants from not only all over the United States, but also Canada, Taiwan and West Africa have been inspired by the unique workshops and the serene environment of Taos, New Mexico.
