Scope and Contents

The Jane Slaughter Papers is organized into two series: the Athletic Council Series and the Committee and Commissions series. The Athletic Council series contains various folders on meeting minutes, correspondence, and newspaper articles. This series contains documents on Athletic Conference Code, controversy on past UNM president hires, and the implementation of Title IX in UNM Athletics. The Committee and Commissions Series contains meeting minutes and correspondence on various associations at UNM. Both series are arranged chronologically.

Biographical / Historical

Jane Slaughter earned her Ph.D. in Modern European history in 1972 from the University of New Mexico. She later joined the UNM history department faculty in 1975 and stayed until 2001. Dr. Slaughter earned various teaching awards and served as the department’s Graduate Advisor, Assistant Chair and Chair throughout her career at UNM. During her career, Slaughter served on the Athletics Council, Faculty Club Board, and the Academic Freedom and Tenure Committee.
