Background Information
Cyrus H. Kirkpatrick was born on October 5, 1843 at Sugar Grove, Indiana. He moved to Kansas in 1872 as a farmer. Kirkpatrick served in the 40th Indiana volunteers and in the Indiana legislature. He moved to New Mexico for health reasons and became a teacher in Socorro County. He became involved in mining operations, particularly the Trilby, a gold, silver, and fluorine-fluorite mine in the Mogollon Mining District, Catron County, New Mexico. Cyrus Kirkpatrick died on 10/29/1915. His daughter, Katherine Kirkpatrick James managed his estate and took over much of his mining related activities.
