Historical Information
In 1824 the town of San Juan de los Llanos became part of the State of Puebla, Mexico. Its name was changed in 1860 to Villa de Libres, in recognition of the occupation of the liberal forces led by General Castulo de Alatriste. 1894 saw it established as a free municipality and presently it is called Ciudad de Libres.
