History
The Valley Ranch (c.1926-1948) was a vacation resort on the Pecos River near Glorieta, New Mexico, accessible from the pre-1937 path of Route 66. It was also a stop on the Indian Detours motoring tours. Pecos Indians originally inhabited the land, which was later part of the Cañon de Pecos land grant, then purchased in 1852 by Alexander Valle as a private ranch. Eventually, the year-'round resort was one of a number of popular campgrounds and dude ranches. During its heyday, the Valley Ranch boasted its own Post Office and Sunday afternoon rodeos. After 1947, it was owned and managed by a number of other organizations, serving as a Trappists monastery, and continues as a retreat center.
