Scope and Content

The primary component of this collection is a scrapbook containing post cards, photos, and clipped information detailing the Siedhoff’s trip to the Southwest in 1928. Their travel focus was national parks and monuments in New Mexico. Included are materials related to Chaco Canyon, Mesa Verde, Bandelier, Aztec, El Morro, Gran Quivira, Black Mesa, and Acoma.

A typed travel narrative, an article from the Emporia Lyon County Times documenting the trip, and a couple of news clippings relating to the culture of the Southwest are also included.

Biography

Elmer W. Siedhoff, (manager of the Hotel Broadview (Emporia, KS), his wife Ruth, and their baby daughter took a 3 month, 6,000 mile automobile trip from Emporia, KS to New Mexico in 1928. Their interest was in historical sites, particularly national parks and monuments.
