Scope and Content
Portraits of prominent Southwestern writers. Black & white exhibition quality photographic prints. Those portrayed are writers who have lived west of the Pecos in Texas, New Mexico, or Arizona and, in keeping with the photographer's criterion for selection, have published at least three major works concerning the Southwest. Also called the Writers of the Southwest Project.
An addition of eleven black & white portraits of Southwestern writers are an addition to the original accession. These archival prints are mounted with photo corners onto boards measuring 35.5 x 28 cm. (14 x 11 in.) Subjects include women, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, as well as other Southwestern authors who have lived west of the Pecos in Texas, New Mexico, or Arizona and, in keeping with the photographer's criterion, have published at least three major works concerning the Southwest. Persons portrayed include: Denise Chávez, Erlinda Gonzales-Berry, Harold Littlebird, E. A. Mares, Tey Diana Rebolledo, Jim Sagel, John Sinclair, Arthur Sze, Elizabeth Tallent, Luci Tapahonso, Sabine Ulibarrí. A group portrait of Diana Rebolledo, Demetria Martínez, Erlinda Gonzalez-Berry, and Denise Chávez by Cynthis Farah was added to the first addition.
