Scope and Content Note
The Michael Welsh collection contains unpublished chapters from his unfinished history of the University of New Mexico. Several chapters have two copies of the manuscripts. Other chapters contain a draft as well as a completed version. The early years of the university up until the early 1940s are covered in Welsh's manuscript.

Biographical Note
Michael Welsh received his Ph.D. in American History from the University of New Mexico in 1983. He was an assistant professor of History at UNM from 1984-1988. While working at UNM he was asked to write a book on the history of the University. Welsh completed several chapters of the book before leaving UNM in 1988. He took a position at Cameron University before heading to the University of Northern Colorado in 1990 where he continues to teach today. Welsh's interests lie in contemporary U.S. history and the American West.
