Scope and Content Note
The Myron Fifield Papers contain correspondence, photos, and other documents related to his work at the University of New Mexico Physical Plant Division. The papers are organized into three sections. The first section contains Fifield's correspondence from 1960 to 1974. The second section contains his biography, clippings, flyers and brochures. The third section contains photographs and negatives about his work at the Physical Plant and the University of New Mexico.

Biographical Note
Myron Fickas Fifield was born in 1914 in Aztec, New Mexico, and earned his B.S. in civil engineering at the University of New Mexico in 1936. He started his professional career as a roustabout with the Standard Oil Company of Texas. In 1942 he was commissioned in the United States Naval Reserve and spent two years on the overhaul of American aircraft mainly stationed at Espiruto Santo, New Hebrides, and two years on the overhaul of Japanese aircraft in Washington, D.C.
In 1947, Fifield resumed his civilian status as an engineer with Phillips Petroleum Company, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where he became Assistant Superintendent of Operations in the Sales Department. In 1951 he returned to the University of New Mexico as Assistant Comptroller in charge of the Physical Plant. His title was changed to Director of Physical Plant in 1955.
At the University of New Mexico, Fifield was the director of the Physical Plant for 23 years, and he also was Chairman of the Campus Civil Defense and Safety Committee and Recorder of the Master Plan Committee. He was the national President of APPA (Association of Physical Plant Administrators of Universities and Colleges) in 1958-1959.
