Historical Note
University House is the official residence of the President of the University of New Mexico. First proposed in 1909, construction finally began in early 1930 with President James Zimmerman and his family moving in later that year. There have been many updates to the house over the years. President Thomas Popejoy requested renovations in 1955, so architect John Gaw Meem was engaged to increase and enclose the sun porch. President Ferrel Heady and his wife refurbished the interior during their stay between 1968 and 1975. The garage was converted to a family room in 1975 for President William Davis. President Richard Peck requested renovations and infrastructure improvements when he moved in 1990.
University House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
