Historical Note

In the fall 1992, President Richard Peck suggested merging three different student services centers (African American, Hispanic/Chicano, and American Indian Student Services) together to create a single multicultural center, Ethnic Center. This plan met opposition from the all three student services centers, and the Ethnic Centers Review Committee was created to examine the plan’s validity. After a series of hearings and meetings, the Review Committee decided to suspend the plan and maintain three autonomous student services offices.
